MEANWHILE, I have something else for you to read.  I've just consumed all that glassshoe  has ever written in the SPN fandom, and seriously, woah.  Her writing is absolutely gorgeous, and dark, like the most lovely literary h/c you can imagine.

She hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as she ought (despite the fact that I noticed both kroki_refur and big_pink  among her fans), so PLEASE go and comment after you read.

Unthinkable
Summary: After a week of riding shotgun inside his own body, Sam needs to know that he’s the one at the wheel.
I say: This is a self-harm type of premise that is perfectly accomplished.  Usually I stay away from these because the angst is overdone, or the characterization is off, but this is exceptionally well-written and the voices and dialogue are completely spot-on.  It'll floor you.

Summary: Sam never gave up on Dean, but he didn’t save him either.
I say: I cannot recommend this highly enough. It is very dark, however, so be forewarned.  Heartbreaking.  Gorgeous.

Summary: "Hey Sammy, wanna race?"
I say: One of the best S4 I've yet read.  One of those fics that helps me understand Sam and Dean a little better.


Also, a fic I saw recced on her journal while I was stalking her.  I can't believe I've never read this.

I say: This is a perfectly-paced, brilliantly executed fic that is surprising at every turn.  Dark and eerie and oh-so-good.

Just popping in to say

A)  I have been AWOL with the commentfic because my best friend from back home in Massachusetts popped in unexpectedly and I was way too busy adoring her to write

and

B)  My Sweet Charity fic should be up sometime by the end of this week (I'm announcing this here OFFICIALLY so I have a self-imposed work schedule)

and

C)  I just read a fic I really, really enjoyed and thought y'all may enjoy it as well.  It's actually a two-chapter fic and then a mult-chapter sequel, which means a nice chunk of quality reading time.  I laughed, I cried, etc.  And I think many people have read the first story, but definitely not as many have read the sequel, which I actually liked better, so go read and leave feedback!

I'm not sure how much to summarize without giving away the first half a chapter, but, just be warned, spoilers ahead:
Sam and Dean are re-born into an alternate reality in which Mary does not die -- and when I say re-born, that's exactly what I mean.  They are born into baby bodies, but with all the memories of their former life.  Dean is born to Mary and John, but Sam is not.  Dean is a four year-old hunter baby obsessed with an elusive "Sammy" and his parents are freaked out.  Cue epic journey.

Third commentfic, for legoline  (and catsbycat ), based on the prompt: A missing scene from "On the Head of a Pin," telling how Dean got into the hospital.

So, yeah: Tag for "On the Head of a Pin."  Pretty much just Sam's head, which was hard, because confession?  I stopped watching s4 like right after this episode.  I hope you don't hate it.

But even if you don't read the fic, PLEASE listen to the song that gave it its title: The Cardigan's cover of Black Sabbath's Iron Man.  IT'S AMAZING.  You can listen for free RIGHT HERE.  In the upper righthand corner.

Sorry, sugarpuff, this is probably not at all what you asked for or expected.  These are the wetlands that sprang to mind, though, because I'm most familiar with them.

First commentfic, for cream_fudge , who requested Sam hunting solo at Stanford.  Actually, she requested Sam hunting solo at Satanford, which is like the best Freudian typo I have ever seen.

This is angstier and longer than I thought it'd be.  Goddammit.

I have already recced this story, but if you STILL haven't read oselle 's epic (gen) Lazarus Came Forth, then, fangirls, YOU MUST.  I think it's my favorite story in the fandom, I really think it is. 

I just finished listening to twasadark 's beautiful reading of it, which can be found here, and while listening to it read aloud I was again dumbfounded by the amazing precision of the writing, the depth of emotion and the clarity of the images and voices oselle  creates. 

One paragraph, in particular, just -- every time I read it, or hear it read, my throat closes up and my eyes start stinging.  It's such a beautiful, succinct image that sums up all the true, unfettered love that Sam has for Dean, in the purest way imaginable.  I'm going to paste it here, and while there aren't really any spoilers, it comes towards the end of the story and so I'm putting it behind a cut just in case.  Here's a fun game: go read the story, see if you can guess which paragraph I'm talking about, and then come back here and check if you're right.

ALSO.  I'm feeling writerly-schlumped.  I need a little zing-sting to get me going.  I've seen people do this before, so I figured I'd try.

In other Real Life news, Josh Hartnett keeps coming into the restaurant where I work.  He makes me flustered and unable to properly serve him lattes and expensive salads.  But!  I made a bad joke at him and he laughed.  He so wants me.  WIN.

So I've wanted to try my hand at this podfic thing for a while, but couldn't figure out something to read.  I wanted something short and easy but couldn't find anything I didn't think I'd butcher horribly and offend the author.  But THENcandle_beck  started podficcing a bunch of her stuff (read really fucking well, by the way, go NOW and download And I Have Asked to Be Where No Storms Come) and I realized that it's allowed for me to read something of my own.

What I recorded is the prize comment-ficlet I wrote a while ago, the non-angsty one.  HERE IS THE TEXT.

It's hissy and low-quality, and as for the dialogue, I am definitely a girl and not a big strong attractive Winchester, but it's also only 8 minutes, so, EXPERIMENT WOOHOO.

Big Bang is coming up (*screams, breaks out the pompoms and the glittery hair spray*) and I could not be more excited, but until then, what to read?

So I turn to you.

I know that I, for one, get unholy excited when an author I enjoy comments on one of my stories, and yet I do not get around my flist as much as I ought to and that makes me feel guilty and sad.

So if any of you who read and comment on my fic have written a story I haven't read that you are proud of or that you think I would like, please comment below so I can read it and tell you how great you are.  Or art!  or vids, or any other creative endeavor. 

Please, though, just rec me one story and not the link to your LJ fic tag, because while I do have more time than before, I am still not Free Time Goddess, and want to carefully read something you feel particularly compelled to rec.  *love*

I read gen and slash and wincest but no daddycest, ever ever ever, and I'm not big on the PWP.  That's about the only restriction I have.  You all know what I like in a fic... whump, angst, Dean, Sam, Minature Holland Lop bunnies, blah blah blah, but I like other stuff too (except Castiel).

Help a sister out.  You could also just rec me some kickass non-you-written stories, too, but you first please.  Or you could all write me little stories about Dean getting hurt and smoking cigarettes, or you could send me money orders for thousands of dollars, or you could invite me to your ranch so I could ride your ponies, or you could buy me a BUNNY.

Any of those things would make me happy.

Okay, I know I should be updating "The Good of the Few," and I will soon, but I am WAY overdue on answering i_speak_tongue 's final prompt for the long-ago Hurt/Comfort meme.  We had a deal, see -- I'd answer hers if she answered mine, and she did an amazing job, so the pressure was on to post mine, which pales in comparison, and has taken certain liberties with the prompt.

Anyway, here it is, in answer to the prompt: Dean's got a broken leg (coughor2cough), and is stuck in some hotel room, and is witnessing some bad shit go down out the back window. He struggles to do something about it, but it's, you know, hard when you can't walk. Sam or John are there sporadically, but think Dean is just loopy on painkillers or something, and try to talk him down.

This can be considered in the same 'verse as Weird Scary External Fixators I and Weird Scary External Fixators II, but those definitely don't need to be read to understand this.

i_speak_tongue : I know this isn't quite what you asked for, and it is LATE LATE LATE, but I hope you enjoy it!  And please accept my many apologies for the tardiness and any lack of quality you may find herein.
